***HOW TO OBTAIN YOUR FREE COMPOST BIN
Those wishing to obtain a compost bin, who were not successful during the initial distribution, may do so by contacting the local Refuse Disposal Service at the following number: 0 800 500 040 (free number).
***WHAT EXACTLY IS HOME PRODUCED COMPOST ?
Home produced compost allows certain organic refuse from the kitchen and garden to be recycled to produce fertiliser. Just as in the nature, the bio-degradable matter is broken down by the action of bacteria and transformed into natural fertiliser for use in the garden.
***WHY MAKE ONES’ OWN HOME COMPOST ?
In order to produce ones’ own fertiliser and thus enrich the garden soil naturally.
In order to recycle home refuse and make a positive contribution to the sustainable growth of our region.
In order to reduce the costs of disposing of household waste by minimising the volume of rubbish to be transported and treated.
***WHAT CAN BE PUT IN THE COMPOST BINS ?
Certain kitchen refuse can be put in the bins such as fruit and vegetable peelings, stale bread, used kitchen roll, egg shells, coffee filters and dregs, used tea bags… as well as garden rubbish such as dead leaves, wilted flowers, twigs, bits of bark…
It’s all so easy ! The compost bin is simple to use. You just have to fill the compost bin regularly with refuse and mix the contents thoroughly 2 to 4 times a month. After a period of 6 to 8 months, the compost will be ready for use.
***WHO IS ENTITLED TO A COMPOST BIN AND HOW MUCH DOES IT COST ?
The compost bin is distributed free of charge to all residents living in detached houses. In the long run, this procedure economises the purchase of commercially produced bags of fertiliser.
***HOW TO USE THE COMPOST?
The compost can be spread from April to October, on all types of ground, whether it be in the vegetable patch or in the flower garden, as well as in indoor or outdoor plant pots.
